Dear AMCHAM members and friends,
Welcome to the 29 April 2021 edition of your AMCHAM Newsletter!
Two of the hardest hit groups of business persons in Luxembourg during this Corona Virus epidemic are those who work as Independents and those who work in restaurants, hospitality and the retail sectors of activities in the Luxembourg economy. It is also true that many of those impacted in these activities are disproportionately foreign passport holders including cross border workers. Many of these people feel victimized by the government policies associated with locking Luxembourg down which have prohibited their activities of employment from having customers. They are frightened, feel unfairly treated by policies and also feel denied relief and financial subsidy to cover their living expenses. They have become loud in their requests for fairness, compassion and equality of treatment during this time of crisis.
We have listened to their stories and their arguments and have thought that it would be informative and useful to give voice to their issues and pleas for understanding and fairness and therefore have invited Giovanni Patri, a mid-career Luxembourg entrepreneur who has been widely recognized and appreciated as one of the strongest leading advocates and representatives of this constituency, to speak from his heart and on behalf of those he represents and fights for. While AMCHAM as a matter of principle works hard to stay politically neutral, we believe all voices in our society should be heard and think this constituency has a story and message which is worth hearing.
In like measure, we are pleased to introduce via a shared article from the Luxembourg Times, an excellent article about the Luxembourg ombudsman. Not all of you are aware of this publicly funded entity and the good work that it does. Please pay attention to this interesting and informative article.
We are likewise pleased to offer an excellent podcast by our friends at Hogan Lovells on regulation and innovation opportunities after Brexit, and to invite you to sign up and join our AMCHAM Entrepreneurial Committee & EY Luxembourg, for a lunch time presentation on the subject of ” Your Business Plan: Drive Growth. Stay Focused”, 11th May at 12:15pm.
On 19th May 2021 please join us for “SPAC Craze: Why sponsors and targets have become crazy about Luxembourg.
Cook and enjoy our Asparagus-and-Zucchini Frittata.
Last but certainly not least, pass this Newsletter to any of your friends who have not yet seen it… and suggest to them that they should join AMCHAM. We will give them a warm welcome… to be sure!
With my thanks and very best wishes,
Paul Schonenberg
