Dear AMCHAM members and friends,
Welcome to the 17 June version of your AMCHAM Newsletter. We are, as always, strongly motivated to serve all of you and your needs.
Our feature interview of this week is focused on corporate tax related matters. This has been a topic which we have devoted a lot of effort to during this pandemic period. There are several threads of topics which are playing out in the global tax arena which have the potential to seriously impact our constituency of companies.
First, there are the EU and OECD initiatives associated with tax harmonization. Second there is the US initiative to arrange a minimum global corporate tax. Third, there are the issues raised by local politicians both here in Luxembourg and in other countries about taxing the rich to cover the costs associated with the pandemic. While any one of these matters could seriously impact company profits, new investments and corporate planning for the future, dealing with all three at the same time is a daunting challenge. To protect our companies and ensure that Luxembourg remains a competitive location for international companies, our tax committee has been working overtime analyzing all of the proposals and plans which keep being put on the table and making recommendations to ensure the best interests of our AMCHAM stakeholders are protected. I am pleased to interview Bernard David who is the head of Tax & Partner at Deloitte, and also the Chair from Amcham Tax Committee and his colleague Pierre-Antoine Klethi who is senior associate and member of the Tax and Investment Management Practice Group at Loyens & Loeff, both to bring you all up to speed on what you need to know.
I am pleased to announce that we have just placed the second order for AMCHAM Member Benefits Club cards. We remain excited about this initiative which facilitates AMCHAM affiliated companies and their employees to gain discounts of at least 10% from retail partner companies through-out Luxembourg and the Grand Region. If you know of a good retail organization looking for new customers, please bring them to our attention and tell them they do not need to join AMCHAM to become a participating partner. Likewise, we encourage AMCHAM affiliated companies to bring this program to the attention of their employees along with their spouses and partners. We have great partner retailers listed on our website, all offering great deals and price saving… and the membership cards are affordably priced at 10 Euro per card with a two-year mandate before renewal…. So, the cost is only 5 Euro per year! Contact us for more details!
Our recipe for this week is for the Next level potato salad. Enjoy!
We are thrilled by the Luxembourg government initiative to give Covid Vaccination passports. We encourage everyone to continue to stay safe but to smartly return to more normal patterns of living!
When you need us, we are here for you.
Our respect and very best regards,
Paul Schonenberg
