You have in your hands the 30 June AMCHAM Newsletter. This is our final Newsletter before the Summer holiday period pause.
Like many business people in Luxembourg we have been very busy this past week and this week. In a few days we will join All of the attendees for ICT Spring and that will most probably be the last event until September.
We are happy to see Luxembourg coming back alive with serious quality events. Our compliments to HSBC and PWC for sponsoring Carmina Burano at the Philharmonic. This was the biggest Orchestra and Choir group event I have ever seen at the Philharmonic ever! My compliments also to the Financial Times and the Luxembourg Times for partnering together on an excellent women’s event also at the Philharmonic with excellent successful women leaders giving advice on their success secrets. And all compliments to HSBC for also their annual event party to view the fireworks celebrating the Grand Duke’s Birthday. We are honored and proud that all of these companies are committed AMCHAM members.
We in AMCHAM also did our part last week by hosting almost 100 Ukrainian displaced persons for a full Saturday orientation to welcome them to Luxembourg and help them on their way settling into life and work here. We were honored to be joined by three of our new generous event sponsors, Travel Pro, Brouxel & Rabia and Medical Properties Trust and our US Ambassador, Thomas Barrett, who gave an excellent talk to the attendees. (see the photos of them all HERE). We are very pleased with the outpouring of appreciation from our attendees of this course and will continue to hold these orientations so long as there is demand.
From our point of view, our return to prosperity here in Luxembourg is contingent on our keeping the economy strong and successful. We are committed fully to this need, and hence were happy to put on a very well received Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment event very generously hosted by Deloitte at their conference facilities in Cloche Dor. John Psaila, the Deloitte CEO, gave a great welcome followed by a terrific very thoughtful and sincere Keynote by Luc Frieden in his capacity as both the Chairman of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Chairman for all of the national Chambers of Commerce throughout Europe. Mr Frieden was followed by Susan Danger, the CEO for AMCHAM EU and the elected Chairwoman head of the Federation of AMCHAMS in Europe. She was joined by Dan Hamilton, Professor at John Hopkins University who is mandated to prepare the annual study analysis of Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment commissioned by AMCHAM EU and funded by five of the AMCHAMs in Europe (with our own AMCHAM.lu proudly joining in the funding of this project). Be assured this topic of economic recovery and rebuilding our economy will be a constant focus of AMCHAM LU going forward.
Please also take a look at the well written article on the legality of cannabis as an investment in this issue. We do not endorse or criticize Cannabis cultivation and product development. We simply acknowledge that it has the potential to be a very solid investment as soon as the current legal challenges are mitigated.
My compliments to Jorge Rodriquez for his excellent management of our Member Benefits program. Our goal has been to help quality retail establishments to gain new customers which allowing AMCHAM affiliated employees to get more purchasing power from their salaries by receiving discounts at quality local retail establishments. We are now approaching 200 affiliated retail establishments of all sorts of businesses. Well done, Jorge!
