Dear Amcham Members, Partners and friends,
In place of an interview this week, we are pleased to post the New Year’s message (and photo!) that we have received from the Mayor of Luxembourg, Mayor Lydie Polfer.
We are very appreciative to have Mayor Polfer’s best wishes and to be in her thoughts as she continues her service as the Mayor of the most important city in Luxembourg. She is an incredible woman of great importance to those of us in the international community. We very much appreciate that she includes and looks out for the international community as she undertakes her duties. Here are just a few of the many things she does for us:
- The City magazine of Luxembourg is published in both French AND English. You likely have not known that this decision was made by the Mayor herself because she wanted to make sure the expat community was kept informed on what was going on.
- Followers of St George’s International school likely do not know but should understand that Mayor Polfer has played a significant role over many years being supportive of the school to ensure it has been able to grow to its present size and is favorably treated by government policies. She always listens and appropriately lends support when needed.
- We all need to appreciate that Mayor Polfer has likewise made strong efforts to keep us all safe by being a very effective law and order Mayor providing private physical security personnel at city expense when the police did not and pushing back against organized begging run as a business by foreigners who live in France and commute to Luxembourg on a daily basis.
Most especially Mayor Polfer has been a Mayor for ALL OF THE INHABITANTS of Luxembourg! We thank her for her dedication and service, her accomplishments and express our most sincere appreciation and respect to her!
Last night we were honored to join the Indian Chamber of Commerce and DSM law firm for an event on “Taxation and investment policies of Luxembourg and India for cross border financing“. Further details to come next week.
Last week we had our first visit of the new year with the Minister of Labor, George Mischo, to discuss our AmCham 10 point initiatives program which we published here last week. Please see the photos and write up further below. Next week I will have similar meetings with Finance Minister Gilles Roth and Minister of Economy Lex Delles. Be assured advocating on your behalf with the government will have a high priority for us!
Thank you all for the very strong and enthusiastic response we have had with sign-ups for our annual New Year’s Reception. We have a capacity crowd of 200 persons (with 50 persons on the waiting list) attending this event with our esteemed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Xavier Bettel, and our US Ambassador Thomas Barrett. We are very appreciative to be hosted by Spuerkeess and Amazon for this event and thank both companies for their very generous and very much appreciated patronage and support!
In the near future we will host a town hall meeting with candidates applying for selection during the Social elections; and our annual International Woman’s day event hosted by PwC. Please keep checking our Events page for details.
And to say a fond farewell to winter we will again put on our Winter Carnival party at the DoubleTree Hilton with entertainment by Marco Boesen. We especially hope you all will be excited to join us for this networking party with your partners and friends (further details including signups for sponsored corporate tables, couples and individuals can be found HERE).
If you like what we are doing, please tell your friends and corporate partners to sign up for our free weekly Newsletter (HERE) and contact us about joining AmCham and becoming part of our strong and wonderful family (HERE).
With respect and very best wishes,
