Dear AmCham Members, Partners and friends,
We are pleased to be back with you after the two-week holiday break we all have enjoyed. Thanks to the generous public holidays we have here in Luxembourg, the past two weeks have seen many people on holiday enjoying shortened work schedules. Now this week, we are all back and hopefully full of energy after our breaks!
I want to start out this week by making special mention of the bi-annual award banquet held in New York City with sponsorship by the Luxembourg government to celebrate the economic partnership between Luxembourg and the United States. Executive Director Toni Dudsak and Janet Maurillo, Director, Events & Communication, who run the Luxembourg American Chamber of Commerce in New York City did a fabulous job organizing this event held in the presence of our hereditary Grand Duke Prince Guillaume, and Deputy Prime Minister Bettel to honor the space company Redwire (whose Luxembourg-based EU subsidiary has been an amcham.lu Corporate member since 2019) !
As you can see from the photos below which we published earlier on social media, Redwire Space Europe was represented by their CEO, Jaroslaw Jarowski who we are honored to have on our Space committee. Enjoy the photos provided by LACC!
Considering how small (in size and population) Luxembourg is, it is truly amazing that our business sector is so enormous and successful. This is not by accident, but rather the result of hard and smart work over many years. To be honest, we in AmCham are particularly proud of the beneficial relations and strong historical partnership between the US and Luxembourg that have nurtured this result which has contributed so much to the economic prosperity of Luxembourg. Starting with the Marshall plan at the end of World War II which brought Dupont, Goodyear and other US manufacturing companies to Luxembourg to rebuild after the war…. following with the creation and development of the Luxembourg financial sector which was largely driven by US banks and financial institutions… and today, with digital activities in Commerce (Amazon) and Space (SES, Redwire and others), the partnership between the US and Luxembourg, has underpinned and driven the prosperity we all enjoy. Please register and join us on 27 November of this year when we put on a major event in partnership with Deloitte and our sister AmCham accredited to the European Commission (www.amcham.eu) to explain more about the benefits and success of this transatlantic economic alliance.
In our Newsletter of this week, we are pleased to post a short interview with our recent intern Leo, who worked with us preparing AmCham membership promotional material. We do this because we enjoyed having him with us and are happy to share his perspective, and because we want to encourage those of you who are able to likewise take on interns and give them the opportunity to learn and grow from the experience. We encourage you all to take advantage of the opportunity to host interns in your organizations.
We also would like to express our compliments to ING for their exceptionally successful sponsorship and management of their Luxembourg Annual ING Marathon over the weekend. We have seen the crowd (over 15,700 people participating!) and were delighted to note that everyone in every photo is smiling! This event has now grown into a much appreciated annual Luxembourg calendar activity enjoyed in equal measure by both the native Luxembourgers and the Expat communities. This integration is a really notable achievement. Big Congratulations to team ING for the great job they have done! And compliments to all who participated!! Congratulations also to EGB and their Fat Betty Run represented by Stéphane di Carlo, from EGB Interior Design, an Amcham corporate member.
If you and your companies are not yet benefiting from the price reduction discounts available to our AmCham members benefits Club card holders (AMBC), please give Jorge a call at 431756 to learn more about this program. We have over 250 member retail companies who are partners with us offering their products and services at reduced prices to AmCham members. The Pizza Hut restaurants, the Airport Duty Free shop, Starbucks, Gerard Darel, and many other great retailers and restaurants are among our partners. Cards are offered to AmCham-affiliated company employees and their partners for free (with the number of free cards available linked to the category of AmCham membership). We offer this program to help companies give their employees more purchasing power and likewise to promote these good companies to our members via free advertising to increase the foot traffic in the retail restaurants and stores. Call Jorge (or look at the Newsletter section which follows or the AMBC page on our website) for more details!
We continue our fight and lobbying efforts to ensure good government policies which allow our companies to thrive here in Luxembourg. If you have not seen the letter we sent to the principal Ministers in the new government, you can find that letter HERE. If you like what we are fighting for, please let me know at Paul@amcham.lu. Likewise, if you have questions, ideas (or even criticisms), please let me know as well. I will be pleased to engage with you.
Have a good and successful weekend and following week!
With my respect and very best wishes,
Paul Schonenberg
