Dear AmCham Members, Partners, Newsletter Subscribers and friends,
Welcome to this 149th edition of your AmCham.lu Digital Newsletter. We are happy to serve you and delighted to see that our readership continues to grow! To be honest, we do not have the staff or government funding subsidies available to Paperjam, Delano, Chronicle, Lux Times and the other Luxembourg news media. We only have our terrific two person communication team, part time support from our full AmCham team, committees and members, the very much appreciated support of our five sponsors: Cisco, Deloitte, Losch, PM International, and PwC, and the superb recipes provided by Bibi Wintersdorf! We do our very best to run a lean team and make up for any resource limitations by being dedicated and passionate about what we are trying to do… in service to you. We are always happy to hear your compliments and critiques and pay equal attention to both. So keep being connected with us!
This past week I had the pleasure to attend the opening of the eighth Tyvek production line at DuPont de Nemours in Contern. At a time when people say that the cost of manufacturing in Luxembourg is prohibitively high, this American company has just finished investing half a billion euros into a new manufacturing facility in Luxembourg. The result is new well-paying jobs with secure futures for employees, as well as tax revenue for the national and local governments, and positive public relations benefiting Luxembourg for hosting the location of this superb manufacturing site! Watch this space as (hopefully next week), we will publish a great interview and photos from DuPont de Nemours celebrating this event and explaining their Luxembourg success story.
Last week Daniel and I also had a great lunch with Giovanni Patri and Victoria McCarthy, the two co-chairs of our Entrepreneur/Small Business committee, to discuss their plans for their future. We are lucky and proud to have their partnership and support, as we are happy to have all of our committee member partners.
Also this week, I have been honored to be invited to dinner by the U.S. Embassy with a visiting delegation from the United States Congress. AmCham and I are always pleased to support the U.S. Embassy, and to speak on your behalf with people in powerful position of influence.
Our guest interviewee this week is the Upper School Principal at the ISL, International School of Luxembourg, Iain Fish. As you know, we place a high value on education and skill transfers at all levels as absolutely critical contributors to ensure the strength and prosperity of Luxembourg both now and into the future. Mr. Fish did a great job speaking at our International Woman’s Day event and his insights into the challenges which young people of both genders need to overcome to become productive and successful members of society are well worth reading. Enjoy the interview.
As always, I encourage you to look at the full range of content we are publishing this week. I am happy to spread the news of our members, happy to encourage you to try Bibi’s recipes and eager to encourage you to read up and make use of our Member Benefits Program (in the current tough times all employees have today, why not take advantage and get a 10% discount when you have the opportunity?).
I wish you all happiness, good health and continued success!
