British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg 2024 Autumn Edition launched

– PRESS RELEASE –

Luxembourg, 4 September 2024 – Festival Events Asbl today announced the launch of the 15th British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg 2024 Autumn Edition: all screenings will be spread over the Cinémathèque, Ciné Utopia and Kinoler – the first time that the festival is going outside the capital city. While the core festival dates are from 16 – 21 September, we are having various other screenings, both before and after these dates in a comprehensive programme.

The film festival provides a unique opportunity for viewers to experience a wide selection of new films from Britain and Ireland. The 2024 AUTUMN EDITION includes 17 feature-length films from a cross-section of genres and representing mainly independent cinema. In addition, we will be screening a number of short films and launching the second edition of our Young Filmmaker Competition.

The British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg (BIFFL) 2024 AUTUMN EDITION will have “The Teacher” as its official Opening Screening, a drama set in Palestine, and will close with “Froggie”, an Irish-language comedy-drama. All films will be receiving their Luxembourg premiers during the festival, apart from “The Banshees of Inisherin” (2022) which is a Special Screening by the Cinémathèque.

SHORTS EVENING
The winners of the inaugural Young Filmmakers Competition will have their documentary “Being Human” screened as part of this evening, and the 2nd edition of the competition will be launched. The winning prize will include 2 Industry Passes to the Galway Film Fleadh 2025 next July.
The evening will also include the screening of a number of other short films, with some directors in attendance for a Q&A.

HERITAGE DAYS
We received a small grant from the Heritage Days initiative (run by Luxembourg’s Ministry of Culture) for the screening of our own documentary short film “Luxembourg in America” which was filmed during the 38th annual Luxembourg Fest organised by the Luxembourg American Cultural Society (LACS) in Wisconsin, USA. It provides a glimpse into Luxembourg’s heritage in the US following emigration in the 19th century and how their descendants thrive today.

SPECIAL GUESTS
We are delighted to be welcoming a number of Special Guests coming over for the 2024 Autumn Edition, including:

• The People Before: Imelda May, Liz White, Ray Fearon (actors), plus Anne Heath, Sally Wood (producers)
• Warts and All (short): Pat Shortt (director)
• Blurred Lines: Mark Agar (director/actor), Siobhan Aislinn (producer, actor)
• Froggie: Sean T. O’Meallaigh (actor)
