Miami University Career Academy visits AmCham

Monday March 24, student participants from Miami University’s “Career Academy” visited AmCham at the Chamber of Commerce building in Kirchberg in order to find out more about professional life in Luxembourg. The students will be visiting Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands over their spring break period.

The Miami University (Ohio) Career Academy is an experiential professional development initiative composed of distinguished scholars and young professionals that aim to acquire and grow skills relevant to today’s workforce, advance their global cultural competencies, and preview post-graduate professional pathways.

Career Academy Participants (CAPs) are perpetual learners in their quest to lead in the world of work. Throughout Career Academy CAPs will:

  • Experience intensive professional and educational development prior to departure
  • Identify personal goals and career development activities that will impact post-graduate success
  • Travel to a destination to implement newly acquired skills in real-time (Spring Break 2025, Luxembourg and the Netherlands)
  • Develop global networking skills by connecting with like-minded alumni and professionals

This year, Career Academy returns to Luxembourg to facilitate Career Academy scholars building a global network

During their visit to AmCham, Chairman Paul Schonenberg shared some career advice with the students including:

  • Do not underestimate transferrable skills
  • Coffee breaks are not only about the coffee but opportunities for networking
  • Spend time where the people are (eg. chocolate house) to be able to network
  • If you have a mentor, it’s a two-way street – as they help and support you, keep them informed of your plans so they don’t hear about your plans from someone else
  • When you are successful- you should give back to the world (non-profit and other opportunities)
