Dear AMCHAM members and friends,
This past Tuesday evening AMCHAM was very pleased to partner with the Luxembourg Times, the Romanian Luxembourg Business Forum and the British Chamber of Commerce to put on an election Town Hall meeting featuring the candidates from the DP, CSV, The Greens (Déi Gréng) and Socialist (LSAP) political parties who aspire to be elected Mayor of Luxembourg Ville.
Our most sincere thanks to ING for so generously hosting this event as a public service in their Luxembourg Head Quarters location just across the street from the main train station at the Gare!
With every one of 130 seats filled by motivated, registered voters from throughout the international community (and 50 people on the waiting list!), the dialogue was rich with engagement and passionate exchanges of opinions and ideas directly between the representatives of these four major political parties of Luxembourg and also with our intelligent motivated audience. It was really a great event. Big thanks to the Editor of the Luxembourg Times, Douwe Miedema, for his expert moderation!
An interesting part of the discussion centered on why only 17% of eligible foreigners have registered to vote. In truth, the non-Luxembourg passport-holding community is lucky to be welcomed and enthusiastically invited to participate in communal voting. This right of participation is truly a privilege! Yes, we understand, it can be difficult for English speaking voters to get information on the platforms and positions of the political candidates concerning what they will do if given a mandate. But the importance and impact local politics can have on our lives is so significant that we urge everyone who is eligible to make the effort to inform themselves on the issues and be involved!
I take a bit of pride to confirm that AMCHAM and the Lux Times were the originators of this initiative and certainly could have filled the room with our own member invitees without bringing anyone else onto the team. But we believe in the strength of partnership and were very pleased to join with our friends from the British Chamber of Commerce and the Romanian Chamber of Commerce which allowed all of us to send an even stronger message of our governance related concerns to the political leaders who joined us.
Watch this space and join us for the several additional events this partnership team will do together during this election season. Our twin goals are to inform voters so they make candidate choices that fully reflect their own objectives and values while additionally using these events to make the Luxembourg politicians aware of the needs and objectives of the international audience we represent so the politicians understand and make the right decisions concerning the issues of importance to our constituents in the business community!
Enjoy the photos of this event and look for the additional coverage from the Lux Times and the Chronicle which we will republish as soon as this content becomes available. And watch this space and our www.amcham.lu website to register and join the rest of our future election events!
I am delighted this week to feature her excellency the British Ambassador as our featured interviewee! Madam Ambassador Fleur Thomas has served in a wide range of positions across the British Government. She uniquely brings together her experience in the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carefully explain in details the story of military aid which has so valuably contributed to keeping Ukraine free! Please enjoy this interview article… and the rest of our content (including the newest Partners joining our MBC Club and our Meatloaf recipe!) as well!
Like the rest of the business community in Luxembourg, we in AMCHAM are working as hard as we can during this post Covid period to strengthen AMCHAM as a service organization in support of the international community of Luxembourg, and our Luxembourgish friends. We are proud that we remain the largest and most active private Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg!
If you are not yet an AMCHAM member, we would be honored if you please consider to join us. Companies and individuals of all nationalities who share common objectives and values with our members are warmly welcome.
