We follow the postings, recommendations and actions of our esteemed colleagues at the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU) with interest and appreciation as well as a deep respect for everything that they do to support American business interests.
A case in point is the recent Mario Draghi-led European Commission Report on the future of European competitiveness. The findings in Draghi’s report are no surprise. The business community has been sounding the alarm for quite some time. Europe’s and by extension Luxembourg’s competitiveness gap isn’t a revelation; it stems from long-standing issues that demand immediate, decisive action. The time for talk is over. It is the view of many policymakers and colleagues that the hand-wringing needs to stop; rather we should start prioritizing business needs as central to Luxembourg’s agenda.
If Europe (Luxembourg) wants to regain its position on the world stage, it must urgently act. That means focusing on policies that actually attract business investment: cutting back on burdensome regulation, removing barriers to financing, sharpening competition policy, and, most importantly, forming strategic international partnerships. It’s time to stop debating and start delivering. Business can’t wait any longer.
As always we welcome thoughts from you — our valued Members — as to what further actions we may undertake in communicating the common concerns of the leaders in the Luxembourg business community, on your behalf.
