The European Grand Prix 2023: Global Chefs Challenge – European Regional Semi-Finals won by a teacher-student duo
from the École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg
From the 19 to the 22 February 2023, the Regional Semi-Finals of the Global Chefs Challenge competition, organized by the world association WORLDCHEFS, were held in Rimini.
Mr. LENTZ, Chef-teacher, and Mr. Cédric COLLÉ, a student in his third year of training as a chef and working as a commis chef, won the gold medal in the vegan cuisine category, the first edition of which was launched this year.
The team had 3 hours to prepare a starter and a vegan dish according to strict specifications set by WORLDCHEFS: technical skills, the nutritional value of the dishes but also presentation and respect of HACCP rules were scrutinized throughout the competition.
Chef Steve Lentz will be the sole representative for Central Europe in the final of the Global Chefs Challenge, which will be held from 20 to 25 October 2024 in Singapore.
In Singapore, 40 teams will compete in 4 categories allowing for the world’s best chefs to measure their talents and hone their skills in order to win the Global Chefs Challenge gold medal. For the rest of the competition: https://worldchefs.org/globalchefschallenge/.
The EHTL school management is particularly proud of the achievement of the Lentz-Collé duo.
It should be noted that Mr. Lentz is an insider and passionate about vegan cooking. In November 2022, he conceptualized and produced a cookbook, with his colleague, Mrs. Carole GOEREND, proposing entirely plant-based recipes. Entitled Mmmmh, this book was published by the École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg on the occasion of EXPOGAST 2022 and is currently available in bookshops.
