Paris 2024: CFL multimodal and Cimalux are part of the game

– PRESS RELEASE –

Bettembourg-Dudelange, July 26th 2024

Today marks the start of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In collaboration with Cimalux, a Luxembourgish cement manufacturer, CFL multimodal is playing a key role in this sporting event. In preparation for the Olympics, Cimalux has had the honour of supplying cement for the construction of various sections of the Paris metro as well as the Adidas Arena (FR).

Since May 2019, CFL intermodal, a subsidiary of the CFL multimodal group, has been running a weekly block train service, transporting cement tanks from Esch-sur-Alzette to Valenton, located on the southern outskirts of Paris. This train, hauled by CFL cargo, contributed to the construction of the Olympic infrastructure.

From Valenton (FR), the cement is then transported by truck to the construction sites. This transport solution has reduced CO2 emissions by 14,500 tons, avoiding potential traffic jams and delays on this major project. In the past, Cimalux has opted for this sustainable transport solution on several other building projects.

The new eco-designed arena, with a capacity of 8,000 spectators, is located in La Chapelle, 18th arrondissement of Paris. In addition to the 2024 Olympic Games competitions, the ‘Adidas Arena’ already hosts numerous cultural and sporting events, giving it a key role in the daily lives of city dwellers in the French capital. Since its inauguration in February 2024, the Arena has also been used as a playing field for the Paris Basketball Team’s home games.

‘We are proud to be collaborating with Cimalux on this sustainable transport project linked to the Olympic Games. By choosing the train to transport the cement required to build the Adidas Arena, we are demonstrating our shared commitment to the environment and to more ecological and responsible construction practices. As a result of this collaboration, we will be following the matches in the Adidas Arena with a certain pride in having contributed to this major project,’ says Sven Löffler, Chief Commercial Officer of CFL multimodal.

The two partners wish all the athletes the best of luck and exceptional performances during this competition.
